About: Anise essential oil has a warm, sweet scent that often calls to mind the smell of licorice candy. Traditionally used to support oral health and the digestive system, Anise can be found in many toothpastes and mouthwashes. In the global market it is primarily used as flavoring in food or alcohol. Anise essential oil should always be diluted and used with caution; see below for more details.
Common Uses: Anise has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 2,000 years to promote good breath, healthy teeth and healthy gums. It has also been used in digestive teas to improve appetite and stimulate digestion. Today, Anise water is used in India as a men’s cologne. The ancient Romans would eat aniseed cake at the end of meals for improved digestion.
Blending Recommendations: Lemon, Sweet Orange, Lime Distilled, Bergamot, Rosemary cineole, Rosemary verbenone, Lavender, Clary Sage, Marjoram, Basil, Sandalwood.
Safety Information: Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have or have had endometriosis or estrogen-dependent cancers.
Do not use with children under 10 years old.
Use orally with caution if you are taking diabetes medication, anticoagulant medication or diuretic medication, or if you have had renal insufficiency, edematous disorders, major surgery, peptic ulcers, hemophilia, or other bleeding disorders.
Maximum adult dose: 70mg
Maximum dermal dilution: 2.4%
Anise Seed essential oil contains 8 primary constituents and is mostly composed of phenylpropanoids, mainly anthole.
Shelf Life: 4 years in proper conditions before quality declines.
Storage: Store with the cap firmly closed, standing upright, out of direct heat and sunlight.
